There were times when I used to walk out of a meeting of 150-200 people as a newcomer and only a couple of people thought to shake my hand. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, especially the meeting’s. I quickly thought about times when I was the newcomer in other situations: new kid in school; new person at work. What I did in those situations was I kept coming back. I had no choice but to attend school and work. And, what happened is I gave people the opportunity to get to know me. That’s the same way my recovery has gone. I go to meetings on a regular basis and-over time-I’ve given people the opportunity to get to know me. Newcomers: KEEP COMING BACK!!
